GAMECO Completed China's First B737-300 Passenger to Freighter Conversion
06/28/2006

During September 2005, GAMECO signed an agreement with the Israeli Aircraft Industries (IAI), which marked the cooperation between the two companies for the B737-300/400 aircraft cargo conversion. According to the agreement, GAMECO will complete the cargo conversion for several B737-300/400s in the next few years. The first B737-300 cargo conversion was commenced in March 2006 and the turnaround time is merely three months.

As per Mr. Joey Lo, Commercial Director of GAMECO, there are only a few companies in the world, including IAI, who are the holders of Supplemental Type Certificates (STC) for the B737 cargo conversion. China’s first B737-300 cargo conversion completed at GAMECO not only improves the company’s business but also sets a firm base for GAMECO to perform the cargo conversions for wide body aircraft in the near future.

According to market analysis, as the global cargo transportation market expands, the demand for cargo aircraft is increasing dramatically. While the B737-300/400 cargo version, as the medium-to-short-range aircraft, has superior advantages over the others in terms of maintainability and reliability. Thus, it was introduced by a number of well-reputed airlines during recent years. In China, more and more airlines, including the newly-founded airlines are showing more and more interest in the B737 cargo aircraft. But the number of B737 cargo aircraft available to the market cannot satisfy such a huge demand. Therefore, to convert the current B737 passenger to freighter will be the best solution.

GAMECO, based at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, is a joint venture between China Southern Airlines Co. Ltd. (the largest airline in China) and Hutchison Whampoa (China) Ltd. from Hong Kong. As a CAAC, FAA, and EASA jointly approved MRO, GAMECO is capable of performing multi-levels of aircraft maintenance checks for Boeing 737, 747, 757, 767, 777 as well as Airbus A319, 320, A321 and A330 aircraft and their components. With its outstanding efforts in providing quality services, competitive prices, and short turnaround time, GAMECO is the premier MRO center of excellence in China and the preferred choice of more than 30 domestic & international airlines and leasing companies.
