Lately, airports in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area have basically been on construction overdrive!
In September , Hong Kong International Airport fully launched its third runway system, and the Terminal 2 expansion is opening in phases—the departure hall is expected to be ready by March or April next year.
In October, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport opened its new Terminal 3 and fifth runway, making it the first civil aviation airport in China with five commercial runways.
Then in November, Shenzhen Bao’an Airport officially brought its third runway into service.
So why are these three major GBA cities going all out for airport upgrades?

今年9月,香港机场三跑道系统正式全面运作,二号客运大楼也在分阶段升级,离境大堂预计明年3、4月就能用上。
10月,广州白云机场T3航站楼和第五跑道同步投运,让白云成了中国民航首个拥有五条商用跑道的机场。
11月,深圳宝安机场也迎来“三跑道时代”。
